Finally, a decaffeinated coffee for coffee lovers! A lot of decaffeinated coffee tastes terrible. The solvents used in the decaf process certainly affect the flavor of the coffee, but it also causes significant health concerns for many. As a result, people who wanted really good (and safe) coffee, simply didn't drink Decaf.

The Swiss Water® Decaffeination Process changed all of that and today, Specialty Coffee roasters can offer their customers decaffeinated coffees that rival the flavors and complexity of their finest, regular coffees. Our Costa Rican El Indio Swiss Water® Process Decaf Coffee is profoundly delicious and, once you try it, we think you'll want to order it again and again.

In fact, we'd be surprised if most people could distinguish this coffee from a regular Specialty Coffee. It's not just "really good decaf," it's really good coffee.

Flavors:

Costa Rica El Indio decaffeinated coffee is a classic San Marcos coffee from the high altitudes of the Tarrazu region of Costa Rica. Featuring flavors of milk chocolate, nuts and citrus, this coffee is smooth and easy to drink with a medium body and a "clean cup," meaning there are no discernible flavor defects.

It's a long, long way from the decaf of old and you can serve it with confidence to your guests who might normally turn up their noses at a decaffeinated brew. Or, just keep it all to yourself! And since the Swiss Water® Process uses only water to remove 99.9% of the caffeine, you can rest easy that you won't be drinking any, potentially harmful, man-made chemicals.

Recommended Roast Level:

Medium

As a Specialty Coffee, this Decaf definitely wants to be roasted at a Medium Roast level and we recommend avoiding any significantly lighter or darker roast. However, if you prefer a bit less brightness and a bit more sweetness in your cup, we can roast further into the Medium range. Let's call that Medium+. It's a slight difference in time and still within the range of a Medium Roast. This will reduce the acidic flavors a bit (in this case citrus) while enhancing the nutty and milk chocolate flavors. However, for the best balance of flavors, we recommend Medium Roast.

More Coffee:

Our coffee pods contain anywhere from 25 - 50% more coffee* than typical single serving pods. This means you get a much bigger bang for your coffee buck as well as a lot more flavor. Or, if you prefer, a larger mug!

Better Coffee:

We roast only the highest grade of coffee, Specialty Coffee, which represents the top 10% of all coffee sold in the world. Don't be misled by marketing terms like "Gourmet Coffee" (which has no definition) or Premium Coffee (think Starbucks) which is a lesser grade than Specialty.

Until now, the single serve market has focused on convenience rather than flavor and enjoyment. As a result, lower grade coffees are mass produced and mass marketed for mass appeal in giant, eye-catching containers at the lowest possible price. Customers end up with cheap (but convenient) coffee at a cheap price. As a caffeine delivery system, it works well. But, if you're a coffee lover, it's a bad deal.

Now, single serve convenience is finally available for true coffee lovers and you'll never have to sacrifice quality for convenience again. Our single serve customers are often surprised to find themselves drinking much more coffee than they're used to. The reason? According to them, it's because they're actually enjoying their coffee. What a concept!

Fresher Coffee:

Our coffee is roasted to order and hand-packed into our uniquely designed, patented and fully recyclable coffee pods in less than 3 hours, and then shipped the very next day**. Most single serve coffee on the market sits for up to a week or more to allow it to "off-gas" CO2. Packaged too soon, standard pods may actually burst if the coffee is too fresh! And it's anyone's guess just how long those finished pods sit in the warehouse or on the shelf before you actually buy them because, in reality, "freshness" or "best by" dates have no actual meaning. With our coffees, you'll know exactly how fresh they are because we stamp the roast date on every box and bag.
